Alabama man sentenced to 297 years in sexual assault

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A Jefferson County Circuit Court judge has sentenced an Irondale man to nearly 300 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

Charles Tyson Hall was sentenced earlier this week and an indictment stemming from a separate attack charges him with rape, sodomy and sexual torture.

Prosecutors have said 26-year-old Hall of Irondale attacked the girl as she walked home from a school event. Authorities say Hall dragged the girl to a wooded area and threatened to kill her if she didn't cooperate. He stole her wallet and fled the scene.

AL.com reports Hall was identified as the girl's attacker a year later when DNA evidence from another assault matched evidence being stored in a state database.
