CCM planning new plant in Walker County

A new automotive supplier company is looking to locate in Walker County.

Massachusetts-based Clark-Cutler-McDermott Company is expected to close this week on the purchase of a former Shaw site sandwiched between Roper Corporation and the former Bluebird school bus manufacturing plant in LaFayette.

"This will be the third automotive supplier we have in Walker County, which puts us leading the pack when it comes to automotive," said Walker County Economic Development and Resource Coordinator Larry Brooks. "We think this will prove to be a great investment for the county and a step toward diversifying our local economy."

Although no numbers are certain at this point, he said CCM's initial investment will likely be between $2 million and $5 million. Once the company, which manufactures textiles for the interior of cars and other products, is operating at full capacity, Brooks said an estimated 50 jobs will be created. Hiring is expected to take place over the next 18-24 months, he added.

"You'll start seeing movement down there [probably by the end of the month]," Brooks said of the CCM site. "It's been vacant for five to six years. Shaw's been using it as warehousing."
