Chilton County, Ala., teacher charged with child sex crimes

CLANTON, Ala. - A Chilton County teacher is charged with sex crimes after allegedly having sexual relations with a student.

The sheriff says 39-year-old Jennifer Collins McNeill is charged with multiple counts of second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy following alleged incidents involving one victim.

WBRC-TVreports that McNeill teaches sixth grade and is the cheerleading sponsor in Thorsby, but the alleged victim is not a student at the school.

Warrants show the teacher is accused of having sex with a minor between April 2012 and June.

She is now on leave from the school and is free on bond.

Court records don't show whether McNeill has hired a lawyer. Her first court date is set for next month.
