Bob Citrullo named Humane Educational Society executive director

The Humane Educational Society has named Bob Citrullo as its new executive director following months of interviews.

Citrullo, who served in the U.S. Army as an emergency nurse until his retirement in 2006, has been involved with animal hospitals and humane societies since April 2007, according to his LinkedIn page.

He also served as the executive director of the Cedar Valley Humane Society in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as well as the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Society in Toccoa, Ga.

His longest position helping animals came as director of support services for the Arizona Humane Services, which placed more than 23,000 animals with foster families during his two years on staff.

Citrullo will fill the position previously held by the late Guy Bilyeu, who died on Sept. 14, six days after a serious bicycling accident.

Tai Federico, a local veterinarian, had stepped in as interim executive director during the search for Bilyeu's replacement.
