Volkswagen Group of America has named a new chief executive amid slumping sales in 2013.
Michael Horn, 51, who has been head of VW's global after sales, is replacing Jonathan Browning at the company's Herndon, Va., headquarters.
Browning is leaving for personal reasons and return to the United Kingdom, according to a VW statement.
Horn has headed the brand's global after sales since 2009.
He joined Volkswagen in 1990, working on group and brand strategy. In 1997, he assumed responsibility for sales in northwestern Europe. He was head of sales in northwestern Europe from 1997, and he was head of sales and marketing for premium-class vehicles for the Volkswagen brand from 2001. He was named head of sales for Europe in 2004.
VW sales fell by 5.2 percent in the U.S. through November, though officials had cited strong gains over the past two years during Browning's leadership.
