Official: Truck driver injures woman in Texas chase

AMARILLO, Texas - A California man faces felony charges after authorities say his erratic and dangerous driving in an 18-wheeler in the Texas Panhandle led to a woman being seriously injured.

Forty-two-year-old Oscar Davis Romero of South Gate, Calif., faces charges of evading arrest in a motor vehicle and aggravated assault from the incident along Interstate 40 near Amarillo on Saturday. Jail records show Romero does not have an attorney.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Chris Ray said Sunday he did not know the woman's current condition. She was a bystander in a truck stop parking lot where Romero fled near the end of the chase. He intentionally rammed signs, light poles and parked vehicles.

Ray said officers tried to stop the eastbound tractor-trailer and many motorists called 911 about the erratic driving.
