Nashville steakhouse donating funds for cancer research after dispute over a hat

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A dispute over a hat that led some to lash out at an upscale steakhouse in Nashville has ended with a $2,000 donation for cancer research.

The Tennessean reports Morton's Steakhouse agreed to make the donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital after the dispute between a cancer patient and restaurant management.

A Facebook post said cancer patient Robert Chambers was with a group at the restaurant on Friday when an employee asked him to remove his hat. Chambers refused, which led to a heated exchange.

As the story spread online, so did the critical feedback, which led the restaurant to issue an apology and make the donation in Chambers' name.

Chambers said in an online post that he accepted the apology and hopes it leads to more empathy toward others.
