A former Nolensville police officer has pleaded guilty to a federal mail fraud charge for demanding $200 from a woman in exchange for not arresting her for driving without a license.
Acting U.S. Attorney David Rivera announced Tuesday that Kenneth D. Lee had made the plea a day earlier in Nashville federal court. Prosecutors said Lee acknowledged receiving the $200 in three separate money orders in 2011.
Rivera said in a statement that the case illustrates that the government will vigorously prosecute what he called "public servants who choose to abandon their oath."
Under the agreement, Lee faces up to a year and a day in prison. A sentencing hearing has been set for Oct. 18.
