AT&TAT&T announced today it plans to add 600 jobs across Georgia, in part, to help expand the phone company's wireless 4G LTE service.
AT&T Georgia President Sylvia Russell said the company will hire 1,000 workers this year in the Peach State to both replace staff vacancies and expand its staff. AT&T is hiring full- and part-time employees in network construction and maintenance, customer support, retail and other positions. The company plans to begin filling these positions immediately.
Many of the new positions are the result of AT&T's recently announced Project Velocity IP, a three-year multibillion dollar investment plan to expand and enhance its national wireless and wired IP broadband networks. As part of Project VIP, AT&T Wireless plans to add more than 10,000 macro sites, more than 1,000 distributed antenna systems and more than 40,000 small cells. The phone giant plans to expand 4G LTE to cover more than 300 million people by the end of 2014 and deploy fiber to an additional 1 million business locations by the end of 2015. In addition, it will expand and enhance the AT&T wired IP broadband network to cover approximately 75 percent of customer locations in its wired service area by the end of 2015.
"As AT&T continues to invest in our network and expand our customer base in Georgia, we're committed to providing excellent customer service," Russell said.
Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal said the additional jobs will provide opportunities in one of the fastest-growing parts of the Georgia economy.
"Georgia businesses and consumers are using more communications services such as wireless and broadband," Deal said.
