NASHVILLE - The suspect in the slaying of a 17-year-old student shot as he walked to a bus stop was under the supervision of the Department of Children Services.
The Tennessean reports a DCS worker testified Friday that the 17-year-old suspect was released in December from Woodland Hills and was supposed to attend school, stay out of trouble and check in with a caseworker.
The caseworker testified that she last heard from the teen in February.
DCS spokeswoman Molly Sudderth said she wasn't legally able to comment on how the agency handled the case.
The suspect has been charged with criminal homicide. A juvenile court judge ordered the teen held until a June 28 hearing during which prosecutors plan to ask that he be tried as an adult.
