Lakesite preserves city records

If a tornado, fire or other disaster hits the Lakesite area, the city's records are now preserved in a fire- and weather-resistant cabinet purchased with an $870 grant from the Tennessee secretary of state.

"Lakesite needed a repository for our permanent records," said City Manager Jodi LaCroix, who applied for the grant. "In my experience, all municipalities should definitely have a repository of that nature."

LaCroix formerly worked for a city in Rhode Island, where she said the preservation of records was taken very seriously.

Items now protected in the cabinet include Lakesite City Commission meeting minutes, ordinances and financial documents, she said.

"You need to keep these records safeguarded. God forbid you have a fire or a leak in the roof," said LaCroix. "Because Lakesite is such a young community, it's such a perfect time to start."
