B.U.S.Y. Bodies Fitness works with women on all levels

You may have seen them running up the hill at Renaissance Park or doing drills on the Walnut Street Bridge.

They're the B.U.S.Y. Bodies Fitness crew, a group of people exercising together under the direction of Tonya Martin.

Over the years, the long-time certified personal trainer and businesswoman has developed a fitness program that works with people of all fitness abilities to become stronger, healthier and happier.

"We are a lot different than a typical gym or personal training studio," said Martin. "We target the individual who's 35 and up and has committed her life to taking care of others. We encourage her to take care of herself physically, spiritually and emotionally."

So often, women try to get fit on their own, but that's not really how it's supposed to be, Martin said. During B.U.S.Y. Bodies classes she works to help connect people and encourages clients to identify three accountability partners and bring them to at least one class. That way everyone has someone they can go to for support, accountability and motivation.

In turn, the B.U.S.Y. Bodies class members connect through Facebook or on their own to become a strong support system for one another, Martin said.

"We all come out and work out together but we have the spirit of a family," she said.

Classes range from a boot-camp style program called Back-2-Basic; to Strong, Slim and Sexy, which focuses on trouble areas; to the Fit for Life series that encourages an entire lifetime of wellness; and an intense outdoor class called Tight, Tone and Tough designed for the advanced boot-camper. All the classes are taught at Renaissance Park and Metro Tabernacle near the Chattanooga Airport.

With all of the classes, Martin said she and her staff make sure the class doesn't get boring and is always a new challenge.

"Taking time to work out is taking time to preserve yourself for your family," Martin said. "You won't find time for good health. You have to make it."
