TDOT: Henley Street Bridge in Knoxville to reopen Oct. 17

KNOXVILLE,Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation says two lanes of a main Knoxville bridge will reopen this month, though work on the span will continue through next June.

The bridge has been closed since January 2011 for a $24.7 million renovation. It connects downtown Knoxville to south Knoxville across the Tennessee River by way of U.S. 441.

Originally, work on the bridge was expected to be completed this June, but crews had to do additional work on the structure's piers.

Local media reported one lane in each direction will open at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

All lanes of the bridge are expected to be open by February.
