BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - An assistant to Birmingham Mayor William Bell has been indicted on a money laundering charge related to a heroin and cocaine distribution case.
Kenneth Lee Crittenden, who is an assistant to Birmingham Mayor William Bell scheduling events at the Crossplex sports complex, is to be arraigned Oct. 17 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Madeline Haikala.
Court records state that Crittenden was indicted along with 10 other men in a 46-count indictment issued this week. Crittenden is charged in count 42 of the indictment with money laundering. He does not face drug-related charges, though several other defendants are charged with drug offenses.
Crittenden has been released on $10,000 bond. Efforts to reach him were unsuccessful.
Bell declined to comment Thursday, saying he doesn't comment on personnel matters or legal issues involving personnel.
