Georgia officer staking out truck stop is struck by van

ATLANTA - A police officer is recovering after he was struck by a minivan while staking out a truck stop that's been the scene of several thefts from semitrailers.

DeKalb County police had set up the stakeout near International Park Drive and Bouldercrest Road early Monday morning after receiving several complaints from truckers about the thefts.

Police say the officers spotted a couple of suspects trying to pry open the doors of a Tyson Foods trailer. WSB-TV reports that when the officers approached, the suspects tried to get away and struck the officer with a dark-colored Chrysler minivan.

DeKalb County police Lt. Dane Cunningham said authorities are looking for the minivan, which may have damage.

The officer is recovering at DeKalb Medical Center with a bruised hip.
