KNOXVILLE - The FBI says law enforcement officials in East Tennessee have charged a man with robbing the University of Tennessee Federal Credit Union last week.
The agency said Friday that 53-year-old Kevin L. Brandenburg of Knoxville was charged with robbery in a criminal complaint. He is being held and awaiting a court appearance. Online jail records didn't indicate whether he was represented by a lawyer.
UT officials evacuated the University Center after the midday episode on Aug. 27. The FBI said the man fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money, leaving behind a package that he claimed contained a bomb. An explosives team determined it was a hoax device.
