2 indicted after gun discharges at Memphis school

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Authorities say two people have been charged with reckless endangerment after a gun discharged in a 5-year-old boy's backpack in a school cafeteria last month.

The Shelby County district attorney's office said today that 28-year-old Tencil Jones and 27-year-old Marvin Millbrook were indicted Thursday.

They were charged after Jones' son took a gun to Westside Elementary School on Aug. 22. The gun went off in his backpack as students and teachers waited for the morning bell in the cafeteria. No one was hurt.

Investigators say Millbrook brought the handgun into Jones' home, but Jones and Millbrook failed to properly secure it. Authorities say Jones' 8-year-old daughter found it first, but it was taken away from her.

Authorities say the boy later found the gun and put it in his backpack.
