MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A man charged with killing three homeless women in Memphis has made a brief appearance in court, where his defense lawyer told a judge that a mental competency report for his client is still being completed.
Michael Mullins is being held without bond on charges of first-degree murder and rape in the deaths of three women whose bodies were found in downtown Memphis in 1999, 2011 and last year. The 52-year-old sat in a courtroom chair Friday as his lawyer, Robert Gowen, requested a new hearing from Judge John Wheeler Campbell.
Campbell set a Nov. 1 hearing, where the results of the report could be presented.
Court documents show Mullins was arrested June 7, 2012, after the bludgeoned body of Gwendowlyn Jackson was found near a church.
