The city of Chattanooga will get $243,222 from the state department of transportation, according to Gov. Bill Haslam's office.

Haslam and Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer today said the city would be getting the funds through the state's Safe Routes to School program. The money will go toward building sidewalks and crosswalks at the Lakeside Academy school zone.

Haslam's office said the sidewalks will promote walking and biking to school and will help about 490 students.
