A downtown Chattanooga landmark building may be redone into a hotel in a $31 million project.

The former Chattanooga Bank & Trust Building at Market and Eighth streets is to hold a 150-room hotel, according to developer AMCA. The revamp of the empty 10-story building also is to have two ground-level restaurants, the developer said.

Construction is slated to begin next year at the structure, said AMCA.

In 2009, another group had plans to buy the building and turn the structure into a 142-room Crowne Plaza hotel along with condominiums. However, that project never materialized.

Later, a Chattanooga development group bought it and was looking at whether to refurbish the structure as a hotel or apartment complex.
