North Georgia Electric reports 1,100 members still without power

North Georgia Electric Membership Corp. reports that 1,100 members are still without power, the majority of those being in Catoosa and Walker counties. Most outages should be restored sometime tonight, with some isolated outages restored by tomorrow.

Since the beginning of the storm Wednesday, NGEMC contract crews, right-of-way crews and crews from visiting cooperatives in Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama have worked around the clock clearing debris, cutting trees off lines and repairing extensive storm damage. Power has been restored to more than 26,000 NGEMC customers.

"We want to assure those who are still waiting for their power to be restored that 230 crew members plus a host of supporting personnel have worked very hard since the beginning of the storm and are still working," said Jeff Brown, NGEMC vice-president of operations and engineering. "Unfortunately, what Mother Nature can tear down in seconds, can take days for line crews to rebuild."
