Chattanooga-based Variable Inc. took home top honors at the biggest consumer electronics show in the world.

The organizers of CES in Las Vegas honored the company's NODE gas sensor device, which uses Bluetooth to communicate with a smartphone, in its Tech For A Better World product category.

"It definitely validates that, as a device and as a product, that we're on the right track," said Jonathan Bragdon, chief business officer of the company.

Variable joined innovations such as curved HDTVs, Flip PCs and wireless surround speakers at the consumer show, which showcases the best in consumer design and functionality.

"You couldn't ask for much bigger of an honor in the consumer space," Bragdon said.
