Update: Jeremy Scott Ritchie, the suspect in Sunday's triple shooting in Soddy-Daisy that left his ex-girlfriend dead and her new husband and stepson wounded, was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on a charge of criminal homicide Sunday night, jail records show.
It wasn't the sounds of life - the thudding knock of the UPS man with an early morning package or the throaty bark of a dog - that woke residents of Soddy-Daisy's Mimosa Trailer Park this morning.
It was the sound of death.
At 6 a.m., 39-year-old Crystal Perry Ostrum was shot to death as she lay sleeping next to her new husband. It was less than a month since she and Cody Ostrum had said their vows in front of family, friends and God.
Cody Ostrum was injured in the shooting, as was Crystal Ostrum's 21-year-old stepson.
Her 10-year-old son was in the home during the shooting, but was unharmed and eventually ran a few trailers down to get his grandmother, Vickie Penny.
Fingering the enormous bullet holes in the side of the trailer in the Dayton Pike trailer park, Penny said her daughter is the victim of domestic violence. Crystal Ostrum's ex-boyfriend, Jeremy Scott Ritchie, was taken into custody by the Soddy-Daisy Police Departments earlier today. In November, he was arrested on charges of agtravated assault, reckless endangerment and public intoxication, county records show.
Ritchie had been threatening Crystal Ostrum since November 2013, and she had a restraining order against him, Penny said. He even sent her a text Saturday saying that he would see her before sunrise Sunday morning, Penny added.
