An 18-year-old University of Tennessee at Chattanooga freshman student faces a DUI manslaughter charge after he reportedly struck and killed a man on spring break from Knoxville while visiting Panama City Beach, Fla., according to Panama City Beach police.

Bruce George, of Nolensville, Tenn., was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus when he collided with a 2013 Panther scooter operated by 22-year-old Brandon Beverly, of Knoxville, on March 9.

George was traveling east on Thomas Drive approaching Signal Hill Golf Course when the crash occurred. Beverly was heading west on the same road when George veered over and struck the scooter, according to police.

Beverly was ejected from the scooter and transported to Bay Medical Sacred Heart, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash took place leading into the school's week of spring break.

George's breath alcohol content was 0.159, records show. He was booked into the Bay County jail on a $100,000 bond. Records show that he posted bond the same day.

He will face student disciplinary action from the school, said Chuck Cantrell, associate vice chancellor of marketing and communication for the university.

If the student judicial charges are sustained on campus, the punishment could range from community service to dismissal, Cantrell said.
