BROOKHAVEN, Ga. - At least four people are facing drug charges after a hotel was evacuated amid fears of an explosive device just northeast of Atlanta.
Police in Brookhaven were called to a Holiday Inn on Chamblee Dunwoody Road Thursday, after employees reported possible drug activity involving hotel guests.
Police say they encountered the suspects as they were exiting a hotel elevator. They say one man ran from officers to a nearby Phillips 66 gas station and somehow made it to the roof of the gas station.
CBS Atlanta reports that officers surrounded the gas station, and were eventually able to apprehend the suspect.
Police Lt. Brandon Gurley tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that officers removed a suspected explosive device, which had prompted the evacuation of hotel guests for several hours.
