One person is dead and two are injured following an early morning semi-truck accident Friday on Interstate 24 in Marion County, Tenn.

About 1 a.m. CDT on Friday, Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a multivehicle accident on the westbound side of I-24, at mile marker 151.

According to the accident report, a 2012 Volvo truck out of Mississippi was being driven west at a reduced speed for an unknown reason by Ladarrius Montez Echoles, 21. A 2011 IHC truck out of Indiana, driven by Steven Deon Perkins, 36, of Georgia, was approaching at a higher rate of speed and struck the Volvo in the rear.

Both trucks were hauling trailers.

Perkins was killed on impact. Echoles and the passenger of the second vehicle, Torry Stevenson, 35, of Mississippi, were listed as injured on the police report, but no specifics were given.

Both the passenger and driver of the IHC were not wearing seat belts, but according to the police report, safety restraints would not have made a difference.

Drug and alcohol use was not suspected in either driver, though tests were requested.

Charges or citations for Echoles are pending, based on the results of the investigation.
