Celebrate the start of the World Cup in Brazil June 12 with a caipirinha, the national drink of Brazil.
Lucky for you it's a Thursday, which means half-price caipirinhas at the Boathouse.
Bartender Robin Mootz says the Boathouse's caipirinha is made by cutting a lime into 12 pieces and muddling it in a 6- to 8-ounce glass with one teaspoon sugar. Instead of using the traditional caipirinha base of cachaca, the most common distilled alcoholic beverage in Brazil, the Boathouse uses a Brazilian rum called pitu.
WHAT YOU DO:
To make a traditional caipirinha at home, place half a lime cut into 4 wedges and 2 teaspoons brown sugar into an Old Fashioned glass.
Muddle together and fill the glass with crushed ice and 2 ounces cachaca (or rum).
TIP: You can also use other fruits such as kiwis or strawberries, and if you make the drink with vodka, it's called a caipiroska.
