Officials work the scene after a killing in Whitfield County.Whitfield County authorities believe a man killed an adult woman and a young boy before taking his own life near Varnell, Ga., tonight.
The slayings happened at a Shell station/convenience store and McDonald's restaurant at 3898 Cleveland Highway about 7 p.m., Sheriff Scott Chitwood said.
There was speculation that the man shot the woman and boy, about 10 years old, before shooting himself, but Chitwood could not confirm that and said investigators had not determined the relationships among the three. He said they appeared to be Whitfield County residents.
Investigators were gathered around one of the service station bays and police were questioning people at the scene.
"They're trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together," he said.
