If you stop by the Dunlap City Training Center today through Saturday, you're bound to come away with a book or two from the Friends of the Sequatchie County Public Library book sale.

But you might also leave with some goodies from a silent auction that include tickets to regional and Chattanooga venues - or even a chance to soar through the sky.

"Shoppers will be very surprised at the items offered, one of which is a tandem hang glide," Friends of the Library member and silent auction organizer Norma Lizotte said.

Other silent auction items include family tickets - two adult, two children - to local attractions, including the Tennessee Aquarium, Creative Discovery Museum and Chattanooga Ducks. They include six tickets to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, two to Dollywood and two to the Chattanooga Theatre Centre, as well, Lizotte said.

Among items donated for the silent auction are "a tackle box, rod and reel anyone who fishes would enjoy having," she said.

In the end, "it's all about the books," book sale chairwoman Lucy Szelengiewicz said. Lots of books are available at great prices, she said.

"The Friends work hard to acquire a great selection of books at unbelievably low prices, usually a dollar or 50 cents," Szelengiewicz said. "We sell great magazines for a dime, and children's books for a quarter. We also work hard organizing the sale so it's easy for shoppers to find the books they want."

The event also is a membership drive. Anyone can join for $5 for an individual membership or $10 for a family membership.

The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT today and Friday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The library is at the intersection of Rankin Avenue and Cherry Street, two blocks west of the Sequatchie County Courthouse.
