Erlanger Health System trustee Jennifer Stanley denounced a Hamilton County commissioner Wednesday for comments she described as "unfounded and irresponsible."

From the dais at Wednesday's commission meeting, Commissioner Tim Boyd raised concerns over Stanley's recent reappointment to the hospital board, citing an attorney general's opinion that trustees' decision to grant $1.7 million in bonuses to 99 executives should not have been discussed privately.

Those comments were not new. Boyd and Commissioner Joe Graham both tried to stall Stanley's appointment last month until the legal opinion was filed.

But on Wednesday, Boyd took a different tack.

He said Stanley's appointment "was clouded" because her husband, Trey Stanley, settled a lawsuit in 2011 with the River City Co. over a stalled development at 700 Market St. In the meeting, Boyd said "according to the papers, over $2 million of funds controlled by Mr. Stanley were not accounted for."

"We've got to have board members on that board that have indisputable integrity. And that integrity extends to family members," he said.

No other commissioners or county officials commented at the meeting about Stanley or the appointment.

After hearing the recording of the commission meeting, Stanley said Boyd's comments were "untrue and counter to the facts of the situation." The lawsuit he referenced was "resolved to the satisfaction of all parties," she said.

"I am appalled that Commissioner Boyd has chosen to so recklessly attack me and my family," she said in an email Wednesday.

Boyd later said he wasn't trying to attack Jennifer Stanley. He said he was just relating what he read in media.

Further, he said she should expect to be scrutinized.

"Put yourself out there for working in the public and you suffer the consequences, like me," Boyd said.

But Kim White, president and CEO of River City Co., said she wasn't sure where Boyd was coming from.

She said the lawsuit with Trey Stanley was mediated and settled. There was no bad blood, and Jennifer Stanley wasn't involved.

"That's water under the bridge, and it was settled," White said. "And there was no indication Jennifer had anything to do with that company."
