Let it snow, let it snow

Don't plan on going to school Thursday. Not if this snow keeps up. That's the message coming out of school systems from across the Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama region that lie in the path of a winter storm that could drop several inches of the white stuff from the bus route to the front porches of school-age children for hundreds of miles in any direction. As temperatures and snow continue to fall in much of the area, local school systems - and parents - are preparing for another snow day tomorrow. Snow pictures are once again populating social media, with reports of accumulation and even impassable roads coming in from the surrounding region. Whether it's Tennessee's mountains or the lack of salt and brine trucks in Georgia and Alabama, going to school tomorrow could be dangerous, officials warn. As many as 7 inches of snow by Thursday morning has been forecast for several immediate areas. A winter storm warning will be in effect for East Tennessee through Thursday at 7 a.m., according to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. Tennessee remains at a Level 2 state of emergency, according to the latest release from TEMA. Though that's down from Feb. 16's Level 3 that led to at least 30 deaths statewide. Locally, The Salvation Army's emergency shelter again opened its doors to protect those with no shelter. Several local deaths from hypothermia have been reported over the span of this month's winter weather, including a homeless man who was found a block from the Community Kitchen last week.
