Police catch suspect in botched home invasion that left attacker missing part of an ear

Chattanooga police arrested 30-year-old Kevin Lawson on suspicion that he beat and robbed a man last week in what police say was a botched home invasion that left the attacker missing part of his ear.

According to a news release, Lawson knocked on an unidentified 40-year-old man's door at 5 Viston Ave. around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday. He told the man his car wasn't working. He asked to use the man's phone.

Once inside, according to the release, Lawson attacked the man, but during the scuffle the victim bit off part of Lawson's ear. Lawson then drove away in a blue Jeep Liberty. A doctor treated the victim for a non-life threatening injury.

At a time not disclosed in the news release, and in a manner not disclosed in the news release, a member of the East Ridge Police Department stopped Lawson, who police said matched a description of the suspect.

Chattanooga investigators then interviewed Lawson and decided he was their suspect.

Lawson is charged with especially aggravated robbery, especially aggravated burglary and cruelty to animals. It is unclear at this time why Lawson faces the latter charge. It is also unclear what Lawson stole from the victim's home.
