The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is probing the apparent slaying of a longtime local resident who was found dead in his home in Monteagle, Tenn.

TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland said 65-year-old Kenneth Tate was found dead Tuesday by a family member who notified authorities. Monteagle authorities say Tate is a longtime local resident, well-known around town.

The investigation has been turned over to the state agency and an autopsy is under way, officials said.

Niland said TBI officials can not discuss details of the case while the investigation is ongoing. There have been no arrests.
