There will be a Wal-Mart grocery store at the corner of Thrasher Pike and Middle Valley Road, whether neighbors want it or not.

Hamilton County commissioners just narrowly passed a zoning change at the intersection that will allow the proposed development to go forward. Commissioner Marty Haynes, who represents the area, opposed the measure, but he was overruled by other commissioners.

The vote was 5-4 in favor.

The vote came after commissioners again heard from a handful of residents opposed the the development.

Only one resident and the developer spoke in favor.

After the vote, Commissioner Warren Mackey commented on the public comment and another resolution on the agenda that would allow public comment before votes at commission meetings.

"Chairman, if we pass that resolution about letting them speak, you see what's going to happen?" Mackey said at the dais, with a sheet of paper covering his face.
