Daryl Black, director of the long-awaited Chattanooga History Center, has resigned his post, museum officials announced today.

Deputy Director Marlene Payne will become museum director. Andrew Kean, former chief operating officer for the City of Chattanooga, will work as a part-time consultant with the history center. Museum officials also said they expected to hire a chief executive officer in the near future.

The unopened museum was originally slated to debut in mid-2012. Then it was delayed to 2013 and 2014. In January, museum board members announced they needed some $3 million in order to open - money they hoped to acquire through loans.

Black accepted a job as executive director of the Seminary Ridge Museum in Gettysburg, Pa., according to a news release.
