Multi-county high-speed car chase ends in crash, tasing

Several agencies chased a car throughout multiple Tennessee counties tonight, until the chase ended in a crash and the driver being tased as he attempted to evade arrest.

Around 8 p.m. the Bradley County Sheriff's Department contacted the Tennessee Department of Highway Patrol advising them that officers with the Meigs County Sheriff's Department were pursuing a vehicle whose driver was believe to be wanted on felony charges of robbery and assault, according to Lt. Bill Miller, spokesman for THP in a written statement.

Three different vehicles from several departments, including THP were pursuing the vehicle at speeds of up to 105 mph, with light traffic, according to Miller.

As the fleeing vehicle reached the top of a hill on Hwy 11, the driver lost control and went off the left side of the road. Upon crashing the driver attempted to evade arrest and was tased by a Meigs County Deputy and taken into custody.

The driver, Donald Abbott, 46, had a revoked driver license out of Georgia, due to five previous DUIs. He was transported to Erlanger for precautionary measures because he was tased, though he did not appear to be injured, according to Miller.

Abbott will be charged with a second offense DUI, felony reckless endangerment, felony aggravated assault, driving on revoked license for a DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and several other charges, Miller said.

Abbott also had a felony warrant out for his arrest in Bradley County in connection with a robbery and also a probation violation out of Georgia.
