MONTGOMERY, Ala. - An 18-year-old Alabama man was charged with attempting to provide resources to support terrorism, though details of the case aren't being released, a prosecutor said Tuesday.
Peyton Pruitt, of St. Clair County, was arrested and charged Friday, according to court records. St. Clair County District Attorney Richard Minor confirmed the arrest but would not discuss specifics of the charge because of the ongoing investigation.
Pruitt is accused of trying to steer resources worth less than $1,000 to terrorism, according to court records. He is being held in the St. Clair County Jail on a $1 million bond, Minor said.
Arrest records did not provide details of the accusation but indicated the offense took place sometime between Feb. 2 and Nov. 12.
The county sheriff's office said in a news release that Pruitt's next court date is set for Dec. 22.
FBI spokesman Paul Daymond said his agency is working with the district attorney's office on the investigation, but he referred questions to Minor. Pruitt faces a second-degree felony charge in state court, but does not face federal charges.
Efforts were unsuccessful to reach Pruitt's family or an attorney representing him.
