Tennessee will combine its dispatch offices for the Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation in Chattanooga, the first of what could be several such co-locations across the state.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatch center currently located in the Tiftonia district office will be moved to TDOT's traffic management center in Chattanooga. The two groups of dispatchers will do the same jobs they did before, and will occupy separate quarters in the same building, said Jennifer Flynn, spokeswoman for the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

Commissioners from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Department of Safety will kick off the co-location on Oct. 7 at 11 a.m., Flynn said.
