Grundy County detectives and state agencies are probing a fatal shooting that happened while two men were hunting Sunday near Altamont, Tenn.

The shooting happened about a mile north of the county seat.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine said 44-year-old Chadwick Killian died of injuries sustained "in a wooded area adjacent to 920 Northcutt Road in Altamont," DeVine said.

Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum said Killiam had a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Shrum said a man with Killiam told deputies that the shooting was the result of a hunting accident, but "not all of the facts all up," so he requested help from the TBI.

DeVine said the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the sheriff's office, and the 12th Judicial District Attorney General's Office, are actively investigating the incident now and can provide no further information.
