A Mount Juliet man who was killed Friday afternoon after crashing into a tractor trailer on Interstate 24 has been identified as Tommy Rogers, 42.

Just before 2 p.m. Rogers was traveling on I-24 eastbound in a Nissan in Marion County when he crashed into a cable barrier while trying to make a rightward curve, according to a crash report released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Rogers flipped over the barrier, landing in the grass median and then flipped again over the cable barrier for the west bound side. He was ejected from the car at which point both he and his car were struck by a tractor trailer traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver of that vehicle, Igor Janakjiev, 33, was not injured in the collision.

Neither Rogers nor Jankjiev tested positively for drugs or alcohol, but Rogers was not wearing a seatbelt and the investigator wrote that safety restraints would have made a difference.
