A North Georgia man was shot after stealing a Bartow County deputy's patrol car and leading law officers from multiple agencies on an hour-long chase, authorities said Sunday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the fracas started when a Bartow County deputy was called about a suspicious person entering vehicles near Arrington Road in Acworth.

The deputy was speaking to Lorenzo Taylor, 32, when someone walked up to with information, according to the GBI news release.

That's when Taylor jumped into the deputy's patrol car, which contained a police rifle, and drove away.

Taylor refused to stop as Bartow deputies chased the car into Cobb and Cherokee counties. The officers managed to make the stolen car spin out on Highway 92 in Cherokee County, but Taylor wouldn't give up.

The GBI release said he "drove around some officers and in the direction of others," so Bartow deputies fired at the stolen car.

But though Taylor had two bullet wounds, the fight wasn't over. As officers reached to pull him out of the car and tried to arrest him, he managed to grab a Bartow deputy's gun.

"The officers tackled Taylor and Tasered him and eventually they were able to take the deputy's gun away from him. No shots were exchanged during this scuffle," the GBI release stated.

The police rifle was still secure inside the patrol car, but there was evidence Taylor attempted to remove it, according to the release.

Once at the hospital, Taylor fought with medical staff and deputies and was Taser-shocked again. Once his wounds were treated, he was handed over to the Bartow Sheriff's Office.

The GBI said Taylor faces multiple charges. The state agency will investigate the shooting and turn its results over to the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office.
