Woman found shot to death, nude in Atlanta park

ATLANTA - Atlanta police asked for help investigating the death of a 19-year-old woman whose body was found naked with multiple gunshot wounds in a park on Tuesday.

Atlanta Police Major Adam Lee III said police believe Bridget Shiel was killed elsewhere before her body was left in a grassy area near the basketball court at Oakland City Park on the city's south side. Shiel's body, with gunshot wounds to her back, legs and arms, was discovered Tuesday before 7 a.m.

Lee said police aren't certain yet when she died; an autopsy was underway on Tuesday.

Police later released a photo of red 2009 Ford Fusion registered to Shiel. Lee said a license plate reader took the car photo on Saturday, north of Atlanta in the Sandy Springs area. The driver isn't visible, and he said police aren't sure whether Shiel was in the vehicle at the time of the photo.

Authorities also released a photo of the bullet type found in Shiel's body. Lee said the ammunition named "radically invasive projectile" or "R.I.P." isn't common and may have caught someone's attention.

"It's a very menacing looking type of bullet, so if someone might recognize someone with that type of bullet," Lee said. "It's not something that we normally see."

Lee said family members told police on Tuesday that Shiel hadn't spoken to them in weeks.

"No one in her family has been able to provide us with information that would give us a clue as to if she was having some sort of a disagreement with somebody that would rise to the level of her being harmed as seriously as this," he said.
