East Ridge High student arrested for assaulting teacher, making threats

A student at East Ridge High School was charged after assaulting and threatening to shoot a teacher Friday morning, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

A news release said school administrator's and the school resource officer investigated the assault.

The release said the same student was overheard making statements about having a gun hidden at his house and threatening to bring it to school and shoot the principal, a teacher, and a student.

Neither the juvenile student nor the teacher were named in the release.

Investigators didn't find the student had access to a weapon, the release stated.

The student was taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Unit and will be charged with simple assault and harassing threats.

The investigation is ongoing, the release said.
