Morning fire displaces mother and son in Chattanooga

A mother and her son have been displaced after a fire broke out in their Chattanooga home Friday morning.

Bruce Garner, spokesman for the Chattanooga Fire Department, said no one was home at 11:00 a.m. when firefighters received an alarm and responded to 2609 Reece St. with four fire companies.

Battalion Chief Carlos Hampton said the fire was contained within 10 minutes after a quick, interior attack. No injuries were reported but the dollar loss was estimated at $20,000.

Valierie Lyle told firefighters she was at work and her son was in school when the fire started and Captain Andrew Waters with the Fire Investigation Division said the cause of the appears to be accidental - likely an electrical malfunction.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of SouthEast Tennessee provided assistance to the victims and Chattanooga police and Hamilton County EMS also provided assistance on scene.
