Stolen patrol car found crashed, Alabama police looking for suspect

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham police have found a stolen patrol car but still are looking for the person who took and crashed it.

Media outlets report an officer responding to a burglary call left the vehicle running, and a possible suspect in the burglary took the car after being chased by the officer. Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards says the man crashed the car in a wooded area a few blocks away and then ran away.

Police still are searching for the man suspected in the burglary and police car theft.

Edwards tells WIAT-TV that there will be an internal investigation because police officers are discouraged from leaving keys in their patrol cars.
