A man is in the hospital after an apparent shooting on the 3300 block of Pinewood Avenue in Chattanooga.

An officer on the scene said the man had been taken by private vehicle to the emergency room but was conscious and talking to health professionals.

He could not say for certain what the extent of the man's injuries were. At the scene in front of an apartment, officers moved about an area behind yellow police tape, placing folded business cards on the road to mark the locations of bullet casings.

A neighbor, Diane Josey, said she was sitting on her couch when she heard four gunshots.

"I heard the bullets, jumped on the ground, and yelled, 'Get down!'" she said. "I'm all shook up."

Josey said she has lived in the area for several months and it has been relatively quiet, as far as crime is concerned.

She said the shooting was especially scary, given that her daughter and grandchildren live with her. As for the people involved in the shooting, she could do without living next door to them.

"I hope they don't come back," she said. "There's nowhere good anymore."
