An inmate has died at the jail in Walker County, Ga., and Sheriff Steve Wilson said his office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are trying to find out what happened.
Wilson said Christopher Michael O'Daniel, 40, was arrested Friday in the Chickamauga area on a charge of failure to appear from Floyd County, Ga.
O'Daniel was awaiting transfer back to Floyd County.
A detention officer found him unresponsive and not breathing at about 12:20 a.m. Saturday, Wilson said.
An ambulance was called but EMS personnel couldn't resuscitate O'Daniel, the sheriff said.
The body will be transported to the G.B.I. crime lab for an autopsy. The manner and cause of death is undetermined at this time.
