The Cherokee Regional Library system's 2016 Food for Fines campaign kicks off Nov. 1 and will run through Nov. 23, a news release states.

An effort to restock food banks in Georgia's Walker and Dade counties, Food for Fines allows library patrons to "pay" overdue fines with canned food items. One canned food item equals $1 paid in fines, with a limit of 10 cans ($10 in fines paid.) Food items must be in good condition and not expired, and fees for lost or damaged books may not be paid with food.

All food received will be donated to the Tri State Food Bank, The Cottage, The Care Mission and the Rossville Church of Christ food pantry, officials said.

The Cherokee Regional Library system has branches in LaFayette, Chickamauga, Rossville and Trenton.
