One suspect is on the run after an armed bank robbery at a credit union on Gunbarrel Road.

At least two suspects robbed the Trust Federal Credit Union at 1529 Gunbarrel Road just after 12 p.m. today, according to police.

An officer near the credit union spotted two suspects as they drove away from the credit union and chased the vehicle.

The car chase ended abruptly at the corner of Skyline Drive and Jarnigan Road when the suspect vehicle crashed into a telephone pole.

Both suspects then fled on foot, according to police. One man crossed the interstate and was taken into custody on Hickory View Lane. He refused to give his name to police, but did tell medical personnel he was 38 years old, police public information officer Rob Simmons said.

Another suspect carjacked a woman and stole her Lexus. The second suspect has not been caught and should be considered armed and dangerous, Simmons said. His identity is unknown.

The woman is safe and working with police, Simmons said.

A witness in the nearby Big River Grille said the restaurant went on lockdown after the carjacking. She said droves of patrol cars descended on the area near the Hamilton Place Mall. The restaurant is no longer on lockdown.

Simmons could not immediately say what the suspects were armed with when they robbed the credit union.

The FBI is taking over the investigation into the robbery.
