UPDATE: Chattanooga police spokesperson Elisa Myzal said officers with the department responded to the scene off Hinkle Road with the GBI and Walker County Sheriff's Office today. While the body was found outside Chattanooga, officers believe the remains may fit the description of a person reported missing to their agency.
They will wait for members of the GBI's crime lab to determine the identity of the person.
"We were out there in case this was that person, or it fits a description of the missing person we are investigating," she said. "But we can't make a positive ID. Only the [medical examiner] can."
